ERIKA BAUER
Making new technology
and superb design come together harmoniously...
Principal Erika
Bauer (EB) is an interactive design pioneer with
nine years of experience helping people
in diverse industries create a solid visual presence,
over twelve years of media industry experience
and over three years experience as an digital
media design instructor.
Since starting her consultancy
in 1999, Erika has designed and built
world class
web sites for educational centers, PR firms,
not-for-profit programs, and she has also designed
and built niche-product online stores, and corporate
brochure sites. Her previous projects have also
included large dynamic Web site builds for a
premier educational institution: The
Buck Institute for Education, prototyping
user interfaces for emerging online tools from
companies such as
Ekomi and Linkify,
designing intranet portals for Yahoo's
USA sales training center, and designing
and building intranet benefits Website/CD packages
for E*TRADE Financial.
Erika's background as an
international print magazine director and an
online magazine publishing
pioneer has also given her deep understanding
of what it takes to build and maintain a complex
web site and what it takes to publish across
different media. At IDG's Publish Magazine from
1996-99 Erika single-handedly spearheaded the
magazine's web site development. After leaving
to start her own business, she consulted on Eyewire's online magazine site redesign
in Canada.
Erika's web design is content
and user focused, and enhanced by another ten
years of
creative
and technical writing experience, and art & online
design training at schools including California
College of the Arts,
California State University Fresno,
The Center for Electronic Art,
The Ojai Digital Arts
Center (Lynda Weinman's school). Overall,
in her web development projects, she emphasizes
scalability
and ease
of use. She
believes that a successful web site is one that
works well for its intended audience and does
so with elegance and style.
To help her accomplish
larger web projects with full functionality,
Erika creates teams of experts
who join her at e.b.Studios to support the
full scope of project development including:
backend
coding (PHP, java, perl, etc), database development,
e-commerce, technical writing, interactive
programming, and streaming video. Expanding the
business in 2002 e.b.Studios began offering
print design services and logo/lidentity
system design.
Erika
has taught authorized web design
classes using Macromedia products
at Ciber Training
in San Francisco, at ISInc. in Sacramento,
and independently with Bay Area clients.
From 2002-2004 she was a part-time college
faculty member at Ex'pression
College for Digital Arts in
Emeryville, California where she helped
author online-design
course curriculum. In 2005 she became
an Adjunct Professor in the Digital Media program
at Chabot
College in Hayward, California.
